Two Notions of Fatherland: JLG/JLG – AUTOPORTRAIT DE DÉCEMBRE

“I am away from home and must always write home,

even if any home of mine has long since floated into eternity.

All this writing is nothing but Robinson Crusoe’s flag

hoisted at the highest point of the island.”

—Franz Kafka, Letter to Max Brod (July 12, 1922).

If JLG by JLG exists, what does this ‘by JLG’ mean?

It will concern childhood landscapes and of the past, with no one in them.

And also more recent landscapes where things were filmed.

‘Land’ is in ‘landscape’,

and two notions of fatherland can perhaps emerge.
